History of Hughston Elementary

Thomas Finley Hughston (1842–1935), for whom Hughston Elementary School is named, was born in Alabama and later settled in Collin County following four years of service in the Confederate Army.
A farmer by trade, Hughston was also active in public service. He served on the Plano City Council from 1908 to 1914 and held roles as a Collin County commissioner and deputy tax collector. He was also an active member of the Masonic lodge.
Several of Mr. Hughston’s descendants have continued his family's legacy of community service, including serving on the Plano ISD Board of Trustees.
